Digital Foundations: Intro to Media Design with the Adobe Creative Suite

out soon is a new book that emphasizes the need for design principles to be taught alongside software. it is true that the best of the best are able to fuse technological proficiency with knowledge of visual design. Digital Foundations claims to do just that. the book teaches the adobe cs4 suite, while implementing basic design knowledge. some may have beef with the fact the book revolves around proprietary software, but to authors credit, they are making portions of the book available through creative commons.

NEW MEDIA (four volume set)

released january 2009, NEW MEDIA is the work of Leah A Lievroum from UCLA and Sonia Livingstone from the London School of Economics and Political Science. it is a four volume set from SAGE publishing. you can pick it up for just under a grand here.

its an honor just to be nominated

just found out today i am nominated for a couple OEA awards. one for the show ‘vision/re-envision’ i co-curated with matt carlson. and one for best new emerging artist, which matt is also nominated for. we’re a force to be reckoned with.

2 new shows

i have work in two shows.

the first is at my alma mater UN-Omaha art gallery. the university is celebrating its centennial, and invited its alumni to exhibit in a group show together. there will be some superstars missing, but still worth seeing. runs from oct12-nov7.

the second is the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art’s 10th annual art auction. it is a great event that helps sustain a great institution. if you are in omaha between now and nov.22nd, check it out. or check out the online preview.

matt carlson and i recently opened an exhibition at the bemis underground in omaha, ne. opening night was 08.08.08 and will run through 09.13.08.

i am in a video exhibition which will run june 18-july 20, at the lab. the show is put on by the 86collective and will take place in three parts. DENVER, CHICAGO, MIAMI
